Player Profiles

Kyle Travelet started his Kutztown Rugby career as a young freshmen on the wing. Later in the semester we noticed how hard he ran and moved him to center. He and his young teammates won the EPRU 2nd side championship. Kyle toiled there for the next year and just couldn’t crack that first side lineup with Marco Barnard and Marco Cardillo entrenched in the Golden Bear back line. He was such a good athlete that the coaching staff wanted to get him on the field and utilize his talent. Plus he was hitting the weight room and getting bigger and stronger every semester. Kyle did is home work and saw action at flanker. Still, he wasn’t getting the minutes that the coaching staff wanted to see.

Kyle asked to move to the front row and play tight head prop. He didn’t blink an eye and his work ethic in the weight room and cross fit training suited the transition.  He blossomed and found a home in the front row. He was a technique project in the making but took to his new confines like he played there his whole career. By the end of the year, Kyle was being heralded as the best prop in the MARFU Premier League. He was selected to start on the 2009 MARFU Collegiate Select side and traveled to Denver, Colorado to participate in the All-American Trials at the National Collegiate All-Star Championships. Now in his final season with Kutztown University, he was elected the first side captain by his teammates.

Kyle has made yet another position move. He is now playing Hooker, as he anchors the Golden Bear front row and builds a reputation as a strong 2010 Collegiate All-American candidate.  Kyle Travelet has a very bright future on the American Rugby scene.

We are very proud of Kyle but not just for his success in Rugby. Kyle is just a great all around young man and we are blessed to have him as our grandson.
