Kutztown Rugby

Marco Barnard, the most prolific player in the history of Kutztown Rugby has played his final game for the Golden Bears. While at Kutztown, he did what no other player before him had ever accomplished — he was awarded the distinction of representing the United States of America. Marco was selected and played for the United States National 7’sTeam. The USA Eagles.

While a member of the Eagles he played in the World Series of 7’s circuit and participated in the series leg at Twickenham Stadium, London England and Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburg Scotland. He also earned the honor of representing the United States at the 2009 World Games in China.

His illustrious career as a Golden Bear included being named to the 15-a-side USA All-American Team an unprecedented three times. While a member of the All-American squad, Marco represented the United States in Canada and New Zealand. Marco also received the distinction of being named to the 7-a-side All-American Team, twice. He was the first player from Kutztown University to be named to the Mid-Atlantic All-Star Team four times.

Marco was a two year captain at Kutztown. During the 2008 National Collegiate Tournament, he led the Golden Bears to the Elite Eight and was in the forefront when the Bears where ranked number one in the nation, not once, but twice, under his leadership.

On that rainy day, October 31, 2009, with mixed emotions and for the last time, Marco stripped off his maroon and white jumper with the Golden bear over his heart. The team celebrated the victory at Penn State, and Marco Barnard ended his personal journey, as the greatest rugby player, in the history of Kutztown University.
